Bread and Word
Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the (Holy) Spirit to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting 40 days and 40 nights, he then was hungry. And approaching, the one who is tempting said to him, “If you are Son of God, order that these stones turn into loaves.”
But he, replying, said, “It stands written, ‘A person shall not live by means of bread only, but on every word coming out through the mouth of God.’”
Matthew 4:1-4 AT
The Holy Spirit provides God’s words from Deuteronomy 8:3 for Jesus’ response to the enemy, the adversary. Our trustworthy God cares for us and provides bread accompanied by God’s every word. Our bodies are nourished by the unity of bread and God’s words. Jesus is bringing God’s words and our physical living together. We are blessed by Jesus’ presence as we eat bread.
Peace and All Good!
